Our AI Policy

Our Commitment to Human Storytelling

Every book we publish is written by a human being. That's not a marketing line — it's the foundation of everything Rivening Press exists to do.

What Our Readers Can Count On

Every story is human-authored.

The voice, the emotional weight, the tension, the stakes — these come from a writer, not a prompt. We do not publish AI-generated fiction, and we never will.

No raw AI output. Ever.

We do not accept manuscripts, chapters, or scenes generated by AI and dropped into a book. Under U.S. copyright law, only human-authored work can be protected — and more importantly, it's not what our readers come here for.

Human-made covers.

Our cover art is driven by human designers and artists. We do not use AI image generation to create our covers.

Full transparency with our partners.

Every author attests to how their book was made, and we file honestly with the U.S. Copyright Office and comply with the disclosure requirements of our retail and distribution partners.

How We Think About Writing Tools

Writers have always used tools — spellcheckers, style guides, critique partners, editors. Modern software, including AI-based tools, can help an author organize research, track continuity across a series, catch plot holes, and polish grammar. We don't believe there's shame in a working writer using tools to manage the unglamorous parts of the job.

What we care about is authorship. The story must be conceived, written, and owned by its author. If a tool helped carry the bricks, fine — but the author must be the architect, the builder, and the voice on every page.

Any author whose process doesn't meet that standard doesn't publish with us. It's that simple.

For Authors

If you're submitting to Rivening Press or pitching Tales from the Rivening, our full submission guidelines include a detailed tool-use disclosure. We ask not to judge your process, but because honesty with us lets us be honest with our readers, our distributors, and the Copyright Office.

Your voice is the asset we care about. We're here to protect it.
